Welcome to 2022 FlynnsFest!

After a two year hiatus, on July 29th, 2022, we’ll be resuming the annual FlynnsFest.  This will be our 14th once again we will gather to remember and tell stories about how special Dave and Flynn were and how much they still touch our lives today. We also take pride in raising money for two very worthy charities: “Friends of Flynn” & The Shepard Foundation.

The 1st Annual FlynnFest was held six months after David Flynn–a dear friend, loving husband, and incredible father–was taken from us. The vision behind FlynnFest was to create a platform that we could all rally behind to raise money for his daughters’ education. The community stepped up BIG TIME and we raised over $100K in the first year. As proud as we were (and are) to be supported by major sponsors like Kevin Plank over at Under Armour, Turtle and Jimmy Reyes at Premium and Urgo Hotels, it has really been the entire community that has made this event so special. At last count, over 600 unique organizations or people have donated to the cause.

Dave Flynn had many friends, but none closer than the Fry family. Brendan and Erin named their son after Dave to honor our fallen hero. Like his namesake, Flynn Fry was larger than life and was the center of attention. Those who knew him couldn’t help but love him and want to be around him. On March 30, 2012, we tragically lost Flynn. As a means to continue to celebrate and remember both Dave and Flynn, FlynnFest was renamed to FlynnsFest.

“Friends of Flynn” is an organization under the Holy Redeemer Parish umbrella and is aimed at creating an atmosphere of inclusion for individuals and families of children with special needs.  The Shepard Foundations embraces the vision of the 1st FlynnFest.  The purpose of the Shepherd Foundation is to provide tuition assistance for families who need financial aid in order to send their children to Catholic elementary and high schools.

On December 27, 2006, while playing basketball with a group of friends at Mater Dei, we tragically lost our good friend David Patrick Flynn.  To know Dave was to love him.  He was larger than life and the center of attention.  He left behind two amazing young girls, Brennan and Molly.  His bride and love of his life, Marge and the best parents on the face of the earth, JT and Patty Flynn.  Dave continues to live on in his girls and the incredible stories that we all still tell today.

Dave Flynn had a lot of friends.  None closer than the Fry’s.  To honor our fallen hero, Brendan and Erin named their son after Dave.  On November 8, 2009 the Fry’s welcomed Flynn Thomas Fry into the world.  Like Dave, Flynn was larger than life, he was the center of attention and for those who knew him you just couldn’t help but love him and want to be around him.  He was sexy and he knew it!  On March 30, 2012 we tragically lost Flynn too.  We continue to celebrate and remember Flynn in stories and in his spirit.  He was a special person and he will never be forgotten.
